In my own words

A little about me.

I'm an orthopaedic surgeon born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. I am based in Calgary, and my practice is built around one thing: helping people get back to a life that isn't ruled by hip or knee pain.

I trained in medicine at the University of Alberta, residency in orthopaedic surgery at McMaster University, fellowship in hip and knee replacement at Western University and fellowship in foot and ankle surgery in McMaster University. I also completed a masters in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Research at McMaster University. I completed my Royal College fellowship in orthopaedic surgery (FRCSC), with subspecialty focus on adult hip and knee reconstruction, which is my current focused area of clinical practice. Over the years I've concentrated on the techniques I believe genuinely change the early recovery experience — the direct anterior approach for hips, digitally navigated hip replacement planned around each patient's own anatomy, the subvastus approach for knees, robotic-assisted knee replacement, and more.

I've watched patients live for years on a clock — waiting, accommodating, stepping back from things they love. A big part of why I'm building this practice is to offer Albertans, when the time is right, a calmer and more predictable path to surgery, without leaving home, but still supporting and continuing my public practice so I can help as many patients' as I can.

Outside the operating room I spend my time with my children and family in Calgary and across Canada and in the USA, cycling, and reminding myself how much of life depends on joints we take for granted.

My approach

How I think about your care.

I think the best operations are the ones we choose together, with eyes open. That means a real consultation — your story, your goals, your X-rays — and a frank conversation about whether surgery is the right next step at all.

When it is, I tailor the technique to your anatomy: the anterior approach for many hips, digitally navigated hip replacement personalized to your own anatomy, the subvastus approach for many knees, and robotic-assisted knee replacement planned around your own unique anatomy where it adds precision. None of these are magic. They're tools, in the service of a careful plan.

And I stay with you afterwards. The same surgeon who plans and performs your operation is the one who sees you for follow-up, answers questions, and looks after you if anything needs attention. That continuity is non-negotiable for me.

What you can expect

Three things I commit to.

Time at consultation

A proper, unhurried consultation. We look at your imaging together, talk through options, and answer your questions — including the hard ones.

Honesty about fit

If surgery isn't the right answer for you yet, I'll say so. The techniques I use aren't for every patient, and I'll tell you when a different path is safer.

Care that stays with you

From your first visit through follow-up, you'll be looked after by the same team. Continuity isn't a feature — it's how good orthopaedic care works.
